Chiral Analysis of Linalool, an Important Natural Fragrance and Flavor Compound, by Molecular Rotational Resonance Spectroscopy

The chiral analysis of terpenes in complex mixtures essential oils, necessary for authentication, has been further developed using tagging molecular rotational resonance (MRR) spectroscopy. One analyte that is particular interest linalool (3,7-dimethyl-1,6-octadien-3-ol), a common natural terpene found botanicals with its enantiomers having unique flavor, fragrance, and aromatherapy characteristics. In this MRR demonstration, resolution the achieved through addition tag, which creates non-covalent diastereomeric complexes distinct spectral signatures. relative stereochemistry identified by comparison calculated spectroscopic parameters experimentally determined high accuracy. intensities are analyzed to determine absolute configuration (AC) enantiomeric excess (EE) each sample. Here, we demonstrate use spectroscopy perform quantitative routine enantiomer oil mixtures, without need reference samples or chromatographic separation.
